However, I think you underestimate the extent to which many of those who desire power deceive themselves, this being more true of the followers than the top leaders.
Many if not most sincerely believe they are working for the greater good of humanity. This, however, makes them more dangerous, not less.
As CS Lewis pointed out, there is an inherent limit on greed. There is none on those who want to do us good.
I agree. The people who choose to harm by doing good have convinced themselves they are the rightous saviors of mankind when they are anything but.
