CHICAGO (WBBM/CBS) - Police say a man shot and killed his grilfriend, then turned the gun on himself, inside the Old Navy store on State Street downtown.
A Chicago Police sergeant at the scene confirmed to CBS 2 that around 11 a.m., shots were fired at the Old Navy store at 35 N. State St.
Police sources tell CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot that a man walked into store and shot and killed his girlfriend, before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life. This may have happened in an employee area of the store, the source said.
The woman who died was an employee of the store, the source said.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said two ambulances were called to the scene, but no transports were made.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm any information. An office representative said an investigator had not yet arrived at the scene.
Two witnesses in the store told CBS 2 Web Producer Todd Feurer they heard the shots. The witnesses were waiting to give a statement to police.
Police have closed down State Street between Madison and Roosevelt.
Police shut down the CTA Red Line subway near the scenem, but by 11:35 a.m., the trains were running again.
But carrying a gun in Chicago is illegal!! Surely Chicago's gun control laws should prevent this sort of thing.
I thought rifles were legal if you had the appropriate permit.
That must be what he used.
Impossible!
Guns are banned in Chicago.
Maybe she was Hispanic and refused to sell him one of those Old Navy t-shirts with the Americano flag on it. He gets p!$$ed and shoots her. Just speculating given current tensions over Old Navy t-shirts.
Must have been a cop!
Store registers reopened 30 seconds later. No lost revenue!
Clean up aisle 4.
Clean up aisle 4.
I wonder what evil thing she did to make the poor guy snap like that.
She probably defaulted on his mortgage.
This has to be a typo.....guns are banned in Chicago.
