I have more guns than I know what to do with, but I don't have enough hands or sleep hours to use them if need be. I need trigger pullers and sentries.
For those without a large gun collection, and not much money, go out and purchase a Ruger 10/22 or Ruger 77/22, 1000 rounds of ammo, a sling, a scope, and start practicing.
Alot of "preppers" want to give me hell for recommending a .22LR, but the ammo is good for barter, cheap, easy, reliable, and dont the the round fool you, you can easily kill a man or deer with it with proper shot placement.
If its TEOTWAWKI, then you can make a suppressor for the rifle easily, since you won't have to worry about government agents anymore.
One thing I didn't like about this list is TOOLS. YOu need an extensive amount of tools and supplies to MAKE and REPAIR things. For instance, we have a horse drawn plow, tack gear for pairing draft horses, extra rakes and shovels, and even broken shovel heads and handles. Hope that helps!
Bears repeating.
Of course, other weapons and calibers are important, but those two will be of the most use in putting food on the table. .30-06 will be good for taking a deer, elk, or removing a two-legged varmint from the face of the Earth, but with a .22, you can pop and squirrel, rabbit or feral cat and have dinner right then and there.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
PLS, what is it?
a .22 or shotgun are good places to start if one doesn’t have a lot of loot. Good .22’s by brand names can be had for less than $200 and a Mossberg 12 gauge pump goes for around $300 on sale. Skip the tactical stuff if you have limited funds, they cost extra and we got by for 100 year without them.

...that’s my situation also...I expect the number one challenge that we’ll all have to face is defense....it’s worth remembering that during Katrina the looting began before the hurricane even made land fall....and they were mostly just a rag tag bunch...now imagine an organized group like say 200 Hells Angels breaking into the arms room down at the local national guard armory...then hitting the road for a rape/murder/pillaging spree.

Have killed many (approx 3-5 a year) hogs with a 22lr. X between the eyes and ears and down they go with nairy a problem.
Good point. What is the shelf life of anti biotics? is it possible to stock up?
This can’t be stressed enough. All evacuation and disaster plans should consider community, neighbors and family. So many of the idiocies of New Orleans and Houston post-Katrina could have been avoided if evacuations and shelters had put neighbors together and if the evacuation centers, police stations, and hospitals had prepared to care for the families of essential personnel.
