Three British scientists shocked the world when they revealed on May 16th, 1985 - 25 years ago - that aerosol chemicals, among other factors, had torn a hole in the ozone layer over the South Pole.
Today, the ozone hole - actually a region of thinned ozone, not actually a pure hole - doesn't make headlines like it used to. The size of the hole has stabilized, thanks to decades of aerosol-banning legislation. But, scientists warn, some danger still remains. First, the good news: Since the 1989 Montreal Protocol banned the use of ozone-depleting chemicals worldwide, the ozone hole has stopped growing. Additionally, the ozone layer is blocking more cancer-causing radiation than any time in a decade because its average thickness has increased, according to a 2006 United Nations report. Atmospheric levels of ozone-depleting chemicals have reached their lowest levels since peaking in the 1990s, and the hole has begun to shrink.
Now the bad news: The ozone layer has also thinned over the North Pole. This thinning is predicted to continue for the next 15 years due to weather-related phenomena that scientists still cannot fully explain, according to the same UN report .

The hole was plugged during a secret NASA mission carried out years ago, in which a gigantic can of “Fix-A-Flat” was launched into the upper atmosphere.
Ozone is created when radiation enters the atmosphere and strikes water.
Therefore, it is a self-healing process, when any gap might occur.
It simply wasn’t scaring enough people into the action desired by enviro-extremists.

Don’t know about the O-hole, but the A-HOLE is in Wash. DC in the whitehouse.
Now THAT is bumper sticker/tee-shirt material!
Well done!
(I hope you realize I'm stealing that one!)
Thanks, I owe you a zero.
Now there’s a hole in the bottom of the sea ....
So even though environmentally friendly laws have successfully reversed the trend of ozone depletion, the lingering effects of aerosol use, and the link between the ozone hole and global warming, virtually ensure that this problem will persist until the end of the century.
Whoever these idiots are at the UN, they contradict themselves, and they are so smart, we couldn't possibly notice.
Another BS theory perpetrated and profited on by Al Gore!!!
LOL ... I didn’t know al could do that.
Obama's ego has plugged the hole nicely, for now.
Ancient priests claimed that blood sacrifice motivates the gods to act kindly on our behalf. The same sort of magic is promulgated today by politicians and their so called scientist lackeys. Stop using hairspray and deoderant and the ozone hole will heal, they claim. When it heals, of course, they make it proof of their ridiculous claims.
Reducing carbon dioxide will save what exactly? Trees? I don’t think so. Will it make Canada colder? Who, precisely, finds that desirable? If the seas do not rise precipitously and the sun does not burn us to a crisp they credit their warnings of doom with saving the planet.
These are nothing more or less than shaman con men seeking to bilk society. Gore is the quintessential example of a con artist become wealthy. These are charlatans, deserving of imprisonment, not plaudits.
The hole in the Ozone Layer which started with the release of Van Halen I, started shrinking after the release of Nevermind by Nirvana. It seems that the expansion of the hole coincided with the Hair Metal period where sales of Final Net went through the roof. No pun intended. As “the roof” was the nomenclature for the big hair sported by head bangers and their girlfriends. The epicenter of the hole surprisingly was not Los Angeles, but Revere Beach in Revere, MA. When the Hair Metal genre died overnight. The hole receded. As did the hair lines of those Head Bangers.
“These are nothing more or less than shaman con men seeking to bilk society.”
VERY well put.
The ozone layer was discovered after WWII using an instrumented V2 rocket at White Sands. Global monitoring and mapping of the layer did not occur until much later.
I have not studied the history in detail, but this article claims the ozone hole was discovered in 1985. Data presented on pertinent web sites ( http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/stratosphere/polar/polar.shtml and links) include data from 1979 on. That of the early years appears to be sporatic. If the “hole” was not discovered until 1985, that indicates that early data is suspect, since it may be reconstructed to support the hypothesis. Obviously later data will support the hypothesis, since you already know what to look for and only measure that. In any case there needs to me more convincing evidence that the “ozone hole” never existed before its discovery.
and a picture of obama with a big arrow pointing to THE WORLD'S A-HOLE. (might work...)
