Washington (CNN) -- As petroleum giant BP comes under congressional scrutiny as its ruptured oil rig pumps thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, its political contributions are being scrutinized, too.
The top recipient of BP-related donations during the 2008 presidential election was Barack Obama, who collected $71,000, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
When questioned about the donations Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs made a point of noting that the money came from employees and not the company itself.
White House spokesman Ben LaBolt added that Obama wasn't tied to big oil companies.
"This claim lacks one thing: credibility," LaBolt said in a statement. "President Obama didn't accept a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists during his presidential campaign. He raised $750 million from nearly 4 million Americans. And since he became President, he rolled back tax breaks and giveaways for the oil and gas industry, spearheaded a G20 agreement to phase out fossil fuel subsidies, and made the largest investment in American history in clean energy incentives."

Bull.
Go pull out the top ten companies that gave to Obama’s campaign in 2008...and put them up on the board. I’ll bet that eight of the ten are in serious trouble this year.
“Obama was top recipient of BP-related dollars in 2008”
GEE, GOSH, WHILLIKERS! I wonder if that had anything to do with the waiver BP got last year for the Environmental Impact Study for the well that exploded like >>>BOOM<<< in the Gulf a couple of weeks ago?
I don’t forget that eleven employees are missing and presumed dead as I make my sarcastic commentary.
I hate Obama like the next guy but I can’t fathom him not acting on the Gulf situation over a pittance of 71,000.
I'm just guessing here, but it may have had more to do with Obama's not having the slightest clue as to what to do, and not a single one of his cabinet ministers having a single clue what to do, than the fact that BP gave him a bunch of money.
BP, by the way, is the most out-front with insipid ads about how "green" they are.
If an honest politician is one who stays bought, there are very few. Many of them accept tribute, and will do favors out of all proportion to the amount of money received until there’s a big public problem. Then its “under the bus.”
BP stands for ‘Beyond Petroleum’, don’t you know.
Exactly.
In addition to the money recorded on “official” publications, take a gander at Podesta Group money and money BP directs to “lobbiests”.
Podesta=Obama/Clinton=BP
Obama/Clinton/Soros machine covers up, obfuscates, redirects and since they hold the media, are somehow immune to investigation.
I tried to tell everyone here on FR that Obama the globalist elite frontman is owned by Big Oil, part of the corporate-governmental complex (which is part of the globalist elite).
