Border Patrol has set up 60 miles from the border? What’s up with that?
Half the story. There are static BP checkpoints on all three of the major roads that lead from the border to I-10. The Interstate is maybe 45 miles north of the border. The checkpoints are only about 30 miles north of the border.
There is a very pronounced presence of BP vehicles and officers along the border itself. Problem is, there are far more illegals crossing the border than there are officers to stop them.
I dunno, but thousands of border acreage in under the jurisdiction of the Interior Department or the Forestry Service and they will not let the BP on their turf unless it is a life-threatening emergency. (I guess an invasion of drug runners and potential terrorists are not considered that much of an emergency.)
