“Klein ISD spokeswoman Trazanna Moreno said a student at the high school had requested and been granted permission to hang the flag from a hallway balcony to celebrate his heritage during the annual celebration. Another student tore the flag down and threw it in a trash can, she said.”
Shame on the school admins who allowed the Mexican flag to be hung from the balcony. Just as the fake holiday, Cinco de Mayo, has come to signify a day of protest for illegal immigration, so has displaying the Mexican flag come to mean a middle finger in the eye of the United States. It’s not just an innocent display of pride in one’s Mexican heritage anymore. The school district’s failure to recognize this evolution lead to a stupid decision.
