Strip searches debilitating: Guantanamo suspect 7:48pm EDT
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The only detainee sent to the United States to face trial in a civilian court from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was ordered to appear in court following his claim that prison strip searches debilitate him.
U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan ordered Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani to appear in court on Thursday to hear from him directly about the motion his lawyers filed for a change of Bureau of Prisons rules on how it conducts strip searches.
Ghailani, a Tanzanian, is charged with conspiring in the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Kenya that killed 224 people. He was transferred in June from Guantanamo Bay to be tried in Manhattan federal court.
The judge's order, referring to the still-sealed motion, says Ghailani refuses to voluntarily appear in court because the prison subjects him to a visual strip search that includes inspection of the "rectal area."

I have something in mind for those murderers that would be a whole lot more debilitating.
I feel worse for the guards that have to do that job. Ech.
BTW, people blown to bits is rather debilitating too.
Talk about a crappy job.
A simple, and rather cheap ultrasound device is available to permit detailed checking of the lower GI tract of prisoners.
As for the need for such searches, consider the “Bowel Bomber” who killed an upper level Arab with an explosive charge hidden in his rectum.
Wahhhhhhh efffin wahhhhhh, don’t be a terrorist if you can’t take the degradation after being caught.......we could just chop off their head with a pig fat greased blade......
Weapons of ass destruction.
Rectum?
These muzzie terrorists are awful delicate.
I’d bet regular beatings would make the strip searches seem less objectionable.
