Faisal Shahzad, a Pakistani immigrant who police say has admitted parking an SUV bomb in New York, piled up debts and made few friends in the U.S.
For most of the past decade, Pakistani immigrant Faisal Shahzad struggled to find his place in America, piling up debts and bouncing from one run-down neighborhood to another.
In 2004, he and his wife, Huma Mian, plunked down savings to take out a $218,400 mortgage for a two-story house in Shelton, a gritty Bridgeport suburb. The following year, Shahzad was awarded a master's of business administration degree from the University of Bridgeport, normally a ticket to a prosperous future.

Well you see that bank was a very bad bank. No job, no down no savings, no problem. It is now called Chase. Not my problem Chase.
The copy of his Pakistani passport shows a picture of a serious-looking young man dressed in a suit and tie. It lists his occupation as a student and his religion as Muslim. The document expired in February 2000. A copy of one entry shows a stamp allowing entry into the United Kingdom good until June 4, 1996 and is stamped Karachi, Pakistan.
Included were transcripts of his grades from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C. which he attended in the late 1990s and where he took mostly business classes. He was at best a mediocre student, with his transcript peppered with Cs and Ds, and even an F in one class, Basic Statistics. His grade point average for the five semesters he attended between 1997 and 1998 was 2.78.
That was good enough to gain him transfer admissions to the University of Bridgeport, where a Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status shows he was awarded $6,700 in grant money to attend the school beginning in January of 1999. The remaining $14,700 tuition was covered by “family funds,” according to the document. He was studying for a bachelor’s degree in marketing, the certificate says.
Tax returns show he earned a modest income — his 2000 income, the year he earned his degree from UB, was $5,458. His 2001 return, when he was living on Linden Avenue in Bridgeport, lists his occupation as an account analyst, from which he earned a gross income of $22,650 with a refund of $1,135, which was directly deposited into his checking account at People’s Bank.
Also in 2001, time cards show Shahzad worked for Accountants Inc, a temporary agency based in California. He spent most of his time working an average of four days a week at Elizabeth Arden in Stamford.

You know I got sick enough of the hug a Muslim articles that the NY/NJ media ran endlessly after 9/11, but at least the people covered in those articles were OK people.
And I did read several that were quite sad as of course local Muslims were killed on 9/11.
But, feel sorry for the jihadi? That is really a bridge too far.
They really aren’t helping their hearthrob Barak Hussein Obama with this at all in any way. This is a primary example of Taranto’s rule, or maybe it is a corallary, or something.

White male “teabagger” upset by the healthcare bill = Government approved dual citizenship Pakistani-American Muslim registered Democrat who has no problem boarding international flights or garnering media sympathy for having his house foreclosed on.
Grounds for dismissal of all charges with prejudice.
Any thing is possible now a days with the legal system as it exists today.
UB’s comments on suspect

Michael Spitzer, the University of Bridgeport’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, released a statement Tuesday morning about Faisal Shahzad’s time at the school. Shahzad has been arrested as a suspect in an unsuccessful car bomb attempt in Times Square Saturday.
Spitzer confirmed that Shahzad earned a bachelor of science in computer applications and information systems in the fall of 2000. He returned to U.B. and graduated with an MBA in the summer of 2005.
Spitzer stated that Shahzad’s attendance at the school was of “marginal significance,” and reiterated that “the university abhors acts of violence and terrorism. We work to combat racial and ethnic prejudices and animosity and believe that education in an international context is the key to understanding the values and beliefs of people from other cultures.”
Faisal Shahzad, the man charged in the attempted bombing in Times Square, is a 2001 graduate of the University of Bridgeport and had lived at multiple addresss in Fairfield and New Haven counties.
Shahzad, who will appear in federal court in Manhattan Tuesday, graduated from UB in May 2001 with a bachelors of science degree. His parents had traveled to Bridgeport from Pakistan to attend his graduation. When Shahzad’s name was called, his father proudly whispered, “that’s him.”
Records also show that Shahzad has lived in the region since May 2001 including addresses in Milford, Norwalk, Bridgeport and Shelton.
Meanwhile, police and FBI are continuing to search a 202-2004 Sheridan Street home where the man detained in connection with the failed car bomb in Times Square lived.
The search started around 2 a.m. Tuesday at a known address for Faisal Shahzad, said agent Kimberly Mertz, who wouldn’t answer questions about the search.

Shahzad is the son of Baharul Haq, a former air force vice-marshal and deputy director general of the civil aviation authority, according to Kifyat Ali, a cousin of the father.
Shahzad became a US citizen in 2009, shortly before travelling to Pakistan for what he says was a five-month stay to visit his parents, according to US officials.
He is married with two children, and his wife and children are believed to be living in Pakistan, sources told the Associated Press news agency.
Shahzad graduated from the University of Bridgeport in the state of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in computer applications and information systems in 2000 and later returned to earn a master’s in business administration in 2005, the school said.
Shahzad worked for about three years as a junior financial analyst at the Affinion Group, a marketing and consulting business, located in Norwalk, Connecticut. He left the company in June 2009.
Shahzad used to live in a two-storey greyish-brown colonial-style house with a sloping yard in a working-class neighbourhood in Shelton, Connecticut.
Shahzad bought the home for $273,000 and lost it to foreclosure last year.
Frank DelVecchio, a broker trying to sell it for Shahzad, said Shahzad told him to let the bank take the house as he owed too much on it and planned to return to Pakistan.

Faisal Shahzad Was Read Miranda Rights After Initial Questioning
Alleged terrorist Faisal Shahzad was initially questioned by authorities under the public safety exception to the Miranda rule, Deputy Director of the FBI John S. Pistole said today at a press conference. Shahzad, who faces terrorism charges for a failed attempt to blow up a car in Times Square, was later read his Miranda rights and continued to cooperate with authorities after that, Pistole said.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said this morning it would be a “mistake” to read the 30-year-old naturalized American citizen his Miranda rights, which inform a suspect of their right to avoid self-incrimination.
“Don’t give this guy his Miranda rights until we find out what it’s all about,” McCain said on a radio show this morning.
Pistole said that joint terrorism task force agents and officers from the New York Police Department interviewed Shahzad last night and early this morning before reading him his Miranda rights and that he was “cooperative” and provided “valuable intelligence and evidence.”
“He was Mirandized later and continued to cooperate and provide valuable information,” he added.

Mr. Shahzad, an American citizen, was taken into custody at JFK Airport in New York as he attempted to board a flight to Dubai.
Faisal Shahzad had boarded a jetliner bound for the United Arab Emirates Monday night before federal authorities pulled him back.
At the last minute, the pilot was notified, the jetliner’s door was opened and Shahzad was taken into custody.

Unless an MBA is from one of the top twenty or so programs, it really is not much of a help in this or any job market. An MBA, like a law degree these days, is nothing like the ticket to prosperity that many think it is (including this reporter, apparently.)
