The ferocious oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico is threatening President Barack Obamas reputation for competence, just as surely as it endangers the Gulf ecosystem.
So White House aides are escalating their efforts to reassure Congress and the public in the face of a slow-motion catastrophe, even though its not clear they can bring it under control anytime soon.
There is no good answer to this, one senior administration official said. There is no readily apparent solution besides one that could take three months. ... If it doesnt show the impotence of the government, it shows the limits of the government.

Barry has been nowhere in sight from the outset. The first response that I’ve seen from the Administration was when Salazar and Napalitano were on the sunday morning chat shows where they just reiterated the obvious and said that BP has to figure out what to do. They had absolutely no plan or solutions other than distributing pieces of long orange styrofoam in the ocean. The bumbling and inaction is extraordinary. Engineers from various agencies should have been on this weeks ago to come up with a solution. Barry hates the environment.
