I think it has nothing to do with Ismael and everything to do with the Jews’ refusal to accept Mohammed as a prophet of God.

Should we accept Joseph Smith as a prophet of God? How about Benny Hinn?

It seems that Mohammed wanted to be taken seriously by the Jewish Community in Medina but they scorned him. He then turned against them.
