A naturalized American citizen from Pakistan arrested overnight in the Times Square bombing investigation will appear in a Manhattan federal courtroom Tuesday morning to face formal charges in the case.
Faisal Shahzad, 30, was on board an Emirates Airlines plane at JFK International Airport when he was taken into custody, law enforcement officials said. A law enforcement official told CNN Shahzad's final destination was Pakistan.
Authorities removed three passengers from the Dubai-bound flight late Monday, according to a spokesman for the airline, but two were allowed back on board, officials said.
Shahzad was arrested at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder said early Tuesday from Washington.
A federal law enforcement source said Shahzad nearly made it out of the country.
"They just caught him at the last second," according to the source, who said Shahzad was on board the flight to Dubai and the jetway had been pulled back when the plane was called to return to the gate.

You can bet he has ties to Awlaki.
Muslim cleric Anwar al Awlaki the friend of Maj. Nidal Hasan who was the Ft. Hood Shooter. Hmm but you canÂt call them Islamic Terrorists can you!
The arrest happened just shortly after some Demonutbagcrat on Hannity was saying he wasn’t yet convinced that it wasn’t some right-wing nut job who is a member of the TEA party.
SEC Examiners, where are you on this??
I still can and still will. ;-)
Shahzad must be a complete fool. Why he did not travel by car to another airport to fly to Dubai shows his lack of brainpower.
Not sure at all that it is related. Name could be common like John Smith. Just seemed strange because news story quoted neighbor saying he worked on Wall St.
Yep, certainly fits the description of a balding white man in his 40’s.
the fact that we were subject to this kind of risk from a LEGAL immigrant (who at the very least had to let the Federal Bureaucrats go thru the motions of checking him out) shows you what an exponentially greter risk we would face from hoardes of ILLEGAL immigrants.
Based on count 5 of the criminal complaint, I think he was indeed trying to make money off of this. What an idiot.
Does importing terrorists help our “balance of payments”?
