Convicted Killer Speaks in Death Penalty Trial [Conner Schierman]

A convicted killer who claims he was in an alcoholic blackout the night of the murders has spoken publicly for the first time.

Conner Schierman was recently found guilty in the 2006 killing of a National Guardsman's family, then setting the house in Kirkland on fire to cover up the murders. In a rare move, the King County Prosecutor is asking for the death penalty.

Reading from a prepared statement, Conner Schierman addressed the court. He began with an apology.

"I know it's a long time in coming and I know it can never be enough, but I wanted the victim's family to hear it from me how sorry I am for their loss," he said.

However, during his twenty-five minutes on the stand, Schierman did not admit guilt for the stabbing deaths of Olga Milkin, her sons Justin, 5, and Andrew, 3, and her sister Lyubov Botvina. Rather, Schierman talked about his struggles with alcohol and begged the jury for mercy, saying that life in prison will be punishment enough.

"I've been told by people that's where I'm going, I'm going to hell when I die. I'm already there," he told the jury.

Schierman's defense attorney argues that Schierman's alcohol and drug addiction and abuse as a childhood are reasons to show him mercy and not execute him. Prosecutors say there aren't enough mitigating factors to spare him.

Even if the jury decides Schierman should be put to death, there's no guarantee an execution will take place. 70 percent of the death sentences handed down in Washington in the last two decades have been overturned by higher courts, a testament to the intense legal scrutiny such sentences receive. The Schierman case is the first death penalty case in King County since 2001.

Oh puhleeze. Mercy for someone who murdered a toddler, a five year old, their mother and their aunt? Just fry him already.

Let justice be served. The execution should be performed by people who are totally blitzed. Might take hours and hours, with plenty of mistakes.

I read the father was serving in Iraq at the time of the murders.

This was a very tragic and barbaric act by this coward. I don’t think the idiotic liberal judicial system in WA will execute this animal.
The solution I would award this man is as follows:
1) Handcuffed behind his back 24/7. Handcuffs and clothes removed and prisoner allowed 3 minute shower every 7 days.
Think about that for a minute. Meals eaten out of a bowl or plate without using his hands. Prisoner unable to use toilet for 7 days.
2) At any time the prisoner requests a knife with a blade of at least 5 inches be left in his cell for personal use the knife will be provided.
3) His use of above mentioned knife to end the situation he is in will be viewed as a complete confession of his perpetration of the crimes he has committed.
4) Justice served.
This will probably get bounced by the moderator, but at least he/she will have viewed it and it has allowed me to vent against animals who are killing people.

Mercy to the cruel, is cruelty to the innocent.

The only shame is that he can’t be executed five times, nor in a way that will engender fear in other feral creeps. Public hangings should start happening. This guy needs a public hanging.
