Viet Nam was a mistake from beginning to end. What terrible choices were made. Just think - No Viet Nam, No William Ayers, No SDS, No Obama. Things would have been so different.

Nice fairy tale you have got there, did you think Vietnam happened in a vacuum? If it wasn't Vietnam it would have been somewhere else, it was badly managed for sure but it would have happened in any event the USSR was pushing on all fronts.

The American Vietnam mistake began by having our, by revolution, free and independent ex-colonial nation, save Europes colonialists time and again.
Thereupon we were morally forced to attempt to save their rotten systems for noble reasons, and embraced defeat.

Problem is hindsight is 20/20. With the mindset we had then about not allowing communism to spread- and events that had taken place in Vietnam during and after their revolution, added to agreements made following WWII there was a good case for the Vietnam War. On the other hand- given the strong probability that Johnson created a situation and then over-reacted to it is hard to say it was reasonable for the U.S. to get fully involved when it did- if ever. Then we have the issue of the dims being really good at bringing about crisis and war and not being able to deal with the reality when it happens- there are just to many ifs ands and maybes. If Johnson hadn’t micro-managed- if so many things. It is good to analyze history, but hard to see all of the sides of the equation of things in the past.

BS. Minus Vietnam these idiot radicals were still there spoiling for a fight. They just would have chosen some other cause.

Plus you have to remember that Vietnam was about containing Soviet Communist expansion. It was part of a strategy that worked -- where is the Soviet Union today?

Finally, don't let the history revision get to you: In spite of horrible political and military leadership, we won the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, our treasonous democratic congress surrendered South Vietnam after the war was over.

June 19, 1973 - The U.S. Congress passes the Case-Church Amendment which forbids any further U.S. military involvement in Southeast Asia, effective August 15, 1973. The veto-proof vote is 278-124 in the House and 64-26 in the Senate.

If this hadn't happened, there would still be a South Vietnam and the millions who were killed by American inaction would still be alive.

The left was already here, and elected to office.

no viet nam, then the communists would be running Malaysia and the Philippines and probably Thailand too...

Think Cambodia times three.

Lots of PC disinformation on that war, which was won by the regular North Vietnamese Army, not the locals “insurgents” in the South.

And how good was the North Vietnamese army? Well, later they won a war against China and a war against the Communists of Cambodia...
