Tip ONeil was not exactly prescient when he claimed that all politics is local. As we learned from Scott Browns victory in Massachusetts (referred to by the president as Massatoositsthis from the Great Orator who can recite the Muslim call to prayer in perfect Arabic) all politics is national now.
Americans who have never cared about politics are now fully engaged. One of the few positive side effects of the Obama presidency is the emergence of new citizen candidates getting involved in their local governments. This, by the way, is precisely what our Founding Fathers had in mindthe citizen legislator. As opposed to what we have now, a ruling oligarchy of thoroughly corrupt lifetime politicians.
All House and Senate races in November 2010 are national elections. This election is our last chance to throw some sand in the gears. We have no margin for error, despite the encouraging poll numbers. Our side has never been especially effective at getting our message out.

All decisions are political now. When I buy a car, it will not be GM or Chrysler, because that would be a political statement in favor of Obama’s fascism, which I find repulsive. When I accept a check, it is not drawn on B of A, Citi, or any other bank that accepted TARP/Bailout funds, because that would again be a political statement that I am unwilling to make. I’m taking a lot more time off these past two years, because I would rather spend the time with my family or fishing than earning money that mostly goes to a wasteful and destructive government. All politics are national, and all decisions are now political.
You’re right. I’ve noticed the same thing.
After ObamaCare it's politics are national and personal now for many.
As Rush pointed out, thanks to the left even the weather is political now. It used to be the one thing you could safely talk about.
It’s been this way since 1865. Made worse by FDR. States are a powerless joke, sadly.
