Are you at all concerned that the “maintenance” you speak of would be performed by the same actors who “maintained” the collapsed I-35 bridge in Minneapolis and “maintained” the collapsed I-95 bridge in Greenwich, Connecticut?

No, not at all.
Passengers weigh a lot less than heavy freight,
and won't be collapsing any bridges.

Yes, a load of passengers does weigh less than a load of anthracite, but our ever-helpful government has decreed that Acela locomotives must be twice (TWICE!) the weight of the locomotives that power the bullet trains of France and Japan.

That extra required weight has got to put great stresses on Acela’s axles and wheels.

Oh, wait...
