I’ve just always been baffled by the desire to place blame for a practice that is as old as mankind, practiced on all continents and among all people at one point or another. I seriously doubt there’s any one group that can claim never to have been held in bondage, or never to have held another in bondage. It’s a practice that continues in some parts of the world to this day, particularly in Africa and in Islamic nations, a fact that should be discomfiting to the son of Africa and the son of Islam known as Barack Hussein Obama. But, no, he’s going to place his narcissistic, hypocritical self right at the forefront of reparations for something that the United States did not begin and a great deal to end, in the western hemisphere at least.

Oddly, slavery was probably at one time a moral advance. Prior to its introduction the men of defeated tribes were just slaughtered. Then somebody had the bright idea of making the captives work for them and slavery was born.

It's not much fun being a slave, but for most it's probably better than being dead.

This is for men, of course. Captured women have probably always and forever been enslaved, at least the cute ones, but frankly that often didn't change their status or treatment much from what it had been before.

My sentiments to the tee.

I have always believed that every human who walks
the earth is simultaneously the decendent of slaves
and slave holders. It is the story of man. The
thing which distinguishes the past several hundred
years from previous history is the evolution of the
ability to document human interactions.

Western Europeans involved themselves in African
slave trade fairly recently in historic terms so
documentation is much more extensive than it was,
say, a thousand years ago. And, if you combine
that with the Western European (read American)
relatively developed sense of guilt one can
understand how we got to where we are today.

In the aftermath of tribal conflicts, Black Africans were enslaved (or eaten) by black Africans, who later sold the (the ones enslaved, not the ones eaten) to western European and Arab slave traders. Those slaves sold to western Europeans were rather fortunate.

I do not endorse or justify slavery, but those slaves who ended up in the New World were far more likely to survive and have their offspring survive than those whose servitude occurred in Africa or the Middle East. This is demonstrated by proportion of blacks in the current population of the New World -- 13% in the US (with a current, albeit illegitimate black president), and several nations that are predominantly black and governed by blacks. Note the relative paucity of blacks in Saudi Arabia. And, the offspring of those black slaves kept in Africa (those not cannibalized) were at a far greater risk of dying prematurely from brutal intertribal conflicts and enslavements that continue to this day.

US liberals obviously do not object to slavery -- they go out of their way to endorse and support the modern day African black-on-black slave trade by sweeping it under the rug. Similar to the way the go out of their way to enslave poor blacks in the US through the welfare system that fosters black-on-black crime.

I know of nothing more racist than a moder day liberal.
