Cardinal Mahony Steps Up Attack on Arizona Immigration Crackdown May 2, 2010
Cardinal Roger Mahony, an outspoken critic of the Arizona crackdown on illegal immigrants, had a message for Arizona officials. "Thank you, Arizona," he said Saturday during a May Day rally in downtown Los Angeles. "Thank you, Arizona." Mahony has emerged as one of the leading voices against the new law. Two weeks ago, he compared Arizona with Nazi Germany after the state passed a strict new law that allowed police to check the legal status of anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant.
But Mahony said the Arizona legislation might turn out to be a net positive, hastening the passage of federal immigration reform. It also gives the Catholic church the chance to "continue our outreach," Mahony said, "an important part of moving on" after sexual-abuse allegations against priests.
Mahony called the Arizona legislation unconstitutional. He also challenged Gov. Jan Brewer to release a set of clear criteria defining what constitutes "reasonable suspicion" that an individual might be undocumented. "They can't," he said. "Because you'd come up with brown skin, black hair and listens to ranchera music.' "

What, did he take a break from the daily boy-toy routine?
As I see it in the spring draft we trade Cardinal Mahoney for a number of Anglican priests to be named later.
Big difference in Nazi Germany, There CITIZENS were rounded up and put in gas chambers. All we want to do is round up NON CITIZENS and send them home.
Come to think about it, where are the leftists yelling SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!!!!
He’s no different than Al Sharpton!
Read the bloody bill, fool!
If the Church insists on advocating its followers to ignore our laws, why should anyone follow their dictates ?
I would venture to guess that 99% of these illegals are Catholic. What a coincidence with Mahoney’s stance. The remaining 1% are Islamic terrorists or Chinese whatevers.
Grr.
It’s not the CHURCH.
It’s Mahoney, who’s about to be replaced altogether. He’s a horrible cardinal.
The Church teaches as she always have, that Christians have an obligation to respect the lawful authority, and that includes the state wrt to immigration.
agree
He's a total disgrace trying desperately to salvage a reputation for something other than harboring and facilitating homosexual child molesters. Fortunately, his time has almost run out.
Yeah, it’s the church alright. At it is least until this Cardinal’s statements are publicly disavowed by his superiors. You can bet they’d say something if he wanted to ordain women, marry gays, etc,,, i havent heard the church levels higher than him saying he’s wrong.
Why doesn’t the church fire his butt now? It’d be a good example to others of his type,, and it would reassure regular Americans that the church itself has it’s head on straight.
Mahoney is a Judas Heretic and servant of Satan, who deserves to be put to the Inquisition and burned at the stake for his proselytizing of Evil.
Cardinal Mahony certainly has a right to say his piece and express his opinion. The concept of borders was established long ago. Once Moses lead the children of Israel to the promised land, they didn’t open their borders for the Egyptians, the Mexicans, or anyone else, to come join them.
Isn’t his replacement another amnesty supporter?

There’s only one person higher than him, and that’s Pope Benedict. He states here that it’s a necessary mission for the church to improve conditions and standard of living in Africa, so that Africans can have a dignified life in their own land.
Clearly, in this case, he would encourage Mexicans to stay in Mexico and improve things there. Benedict is not a supporter of illegal immigration. This is all Mahoney, who will soon be replaced.
