Excuse me while I have a post-Oklahoma City bombing flashback.
Then: nothing for the 'right' to gain; the Waco hearings were scheduled, momentum was gathering for a repeal of the Assault Weapons Ban, and the Clintons were feeling the heat for a wide variety of nefarious deeds and questionable affiliations.
Then some magic genius alleged 'right winger' blows up a building full of Federal employees, including women and children. The references to "Middle Eastern" looking "John Does" are scrubbed and the blame dumped on the right.
The result: (predictably) national horror, muting of attacks on the Administration over everything from Vince Foster to Waco, the AWB repeal push went dead in the water.
All that's missing from this implausible scenario is a row of blanket wrapped corpses.
From the description, I would wager most anyone who really wanted to construct a dangerous explosive or incindiary device could have done a better job with information from the web. The device constructed, from all accounts was designed to look and sound far more dangerous than it was.
Or maybe it was an amatuerish attempt by La Raza sympathizers to protest the immigration law in AZ?
Nothing surprises me anymore. There are nutcases everywhere. Every shape, size, color and party affiliation. And then there are those who are ready and willing to uses nutcases and exploit them for their own purposes.
Bottom line, decent and freedom loving people need to always be wary, suspicious and determined.
