Just heard Raymond Kelly, NYPD, state that they found 3 barbeque style propane tanks with m-80 firecrackers on them. Then he said that they weighed 15 to 17 lbs. They probably don’t know yet that 17 lbs is the EMPTY weight of those tanks......

lol...Their job is to go after the bad guy....If they don't, who will?

Their job to get 'the bad guy' as safely as possible. A lone officer chasing a suspect is proscribed by many if not most departments because of the death and injury rate to officers. It tends to be a dumb thing to do.

Lemme get this straight You're suggesting that when two officers, as this article indicated, are on a scene and see a suspect fleeing the scene, were following department policy that forbid them to to pursue the suspect?

Question:

If two officers see a bad guy stab someone on the street, are you suggesting that neither officer pursue the suspect, because it might be dangerous for the officer/officers?

Take your time here.

Either both go or no one goes is the general rule.

Hmmm...

What determines that, if you could be specific?

While your mulling over #66 I have another question for you.

Officer responds to bank robbery call, upon arrival sees suspect flee out back door of bank. Does the officer pursue the suspect, or play it safe and wait for backup?

What if there are other suspects in the bank with hostages, what if the man running away isn't one of the robbers and the suspects use the distraction, what if the guy runs around the corner where other men with automatic rifles are waiting and lone cop runs into an ambush?

Never blindly chase alone. Ever.

Lemme make it simple for you....

Officer responds to bank robbery call, upon arrival sees suspect holding a gun, fleeing out back door of bank. Does the officer pursue the suspect, or play it safe and wait for backup?

I think I’ve answered it for you. I don’t know why you are so stunned that working on the streets is actually dangerous and your safety, your partner’s safety is more important than an immediate pursuit.

How about the tens of thousands of incidents where one man units roll on a call, and see a suspect fleeing on foot?

Lets end this shall we?

This might come as a shock to you, but there are tens of thousands of incidents ever years, where LONE officers pursue a suspect **all by themselves** with backup 15 minutes or MORE away...

wow....
