Mayor Bloomberg: “Today is a further reminder of the danger we face”
New York City police have defused an improvised car bomb parked in Times Square, one of the city’s busiest tourist areas, officials say.
They say propane tanks, fireworks, petrol, and a clock device were removed from a parked sports utility vehicle.
Part of the district - where many theatres are sited - was sealed off.
Both US President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg praised the quick response by the New York Police Department.
“We are very lucky,” Mr Bloomberg told reporters. “Thanks to alert New Yorkers and professional police officers, we avoided what could have been a very deadly event.”
He said the bomb “looked amateurish” but could have exploded, adding that the incident was a “reminder of the dangers that we face”.
and the police stations are to be checked inside and out.

I can give only my opinion, have no facts to base it on, except several years of reading about the jihadi’s actions.
I just turned off the New York scanner, they are still sitting up special commands and they are still reading the message to check all police stations and buildings and to check all suspicious packages and vehicles.
To me it says they are expecting more of them and the jihadi do like to strike in more than one location or have timed bombs that will hit the rescue people.
New York has one of the few really trained departments for terrorism and they either suspect more is coming or they have a message saying more is coming.

I remember there was a report of a car found there or near it, would not bet money on it being 9-11, as I have been known to mix things up.....LOL, no way will I admit that my memory is getting old, like the rest of me.

I suspect we will learn the ‘rest of the story’ one of these days.
They went to a lot of trouble to set this up and then when a cop looked at them, so they must not have planned to die with the bomb, set it and run.
Obviously, we don’t want to offend any particular group because they may get upset and get the ACLU involved.
