Open season has been declared. The dirty-tricks squads will employ young college students because, as this case has shown, you can’t get a conviction on any of the major counts. I also predict that only minor probation will get handed out for the counts on which you can gain a conviction.

Politicians beware.

I think he will get a year at Club Fed and be on probation for 5 years. That is what is normally given for computer crimes. This is also a felony conviction, so now he has that hanging over his head.

I think that under Federal sentencing rules a judge has limited (at best) flexibility when passing sentence.IOW,if a conviction in Federal court carries a max of 20 years I doubt that the judge can say "no time".A lawyer,of course, could set me straight if I'm wrong.

He’ll probably get a spot somewhere within the regime.

If we imprison every college kid who does something stupid, we’ll need a lot more prisons. I know he needs to be punished, but I think a felony conviction and maybe a short jail term is plenty.

There will be no jail time for this punk.

There are MINIMUM sentencing guidelines for federal crimes. The minimum he would get for obstruction of justice alone would be 15 months prison time. Based on a first conviction, if both convictions are added together, he could receive as much as 97 months in prison.

I predict he will probably get 36 months and be out in 2 years.

Obstruction of Justice?? What a joke. Every school teacher that knows of an illegal alien in their class room obstructs justice by not turning them in for deportation.

“There will be no jail time for this punk.”

Based on my work in a federal court, I think he will get at least 24 months in a low security federal prison like Coleman in Florida, three years probation and a fine.
