Jury prestty much got it right on this case.

Wire fraud was a non-starter from the get-go. ID threft charge is a real stretch, too.

On the obstruction of justice; just one more instance when the smart thing to do is never talk to the cops.

Best advice is to not hack into someone’s email.

unlawful computer access and obstruction of justice

And that is precisely what the jury should have found IMHO. Let's see what the "time" is now.....

Don’t forget that this “innocent kid” has a Dad that is a Democrat hack. And that there was cr*p lately in the news about how influential Todd was as “first dude”. I say make an example of him and show leniency a few years down the road.

Absolutely he disrupted her family — or caused disruption. He sent strangers to Bristol’s door in the absence of her family.

Those are mighty heavy penalities when you add them altogether. But he should serve some jail time and a stiff fine and several years probation for what he did. It was interfering with an election too.

How the story would have begun if his dad was a republican and Palin was a dem:

Title: Son of GOP representative Convicted

First sentence: "The son of long term Republican state Rep. Mike Kernell of Memphis, was convicted today of..."

He added that Kernell didn't use the information he accessed or harass Palin's family.

Posting the emails on the internet was harrassment.

This is intentional political sabotage. Not doing something with it isn’t the point. It’s like someone getting into your house, but not stealing anything.

I still wonder about the father, how much he knew. Dems are scum. Like father, like son.

Notice the difference in this jury and the lib jury that convicted Scooter Libby. No solid evidence against Libby but convicted on 4 counts, all they cared about was getting a Bush guy; in this case, the jury gave every benefit of the doubt, obviously.

He was convicted and now is out on bond still? no jail time for him.

Generally once convicted bond is revoked immediatly.

Throw the book at this little twerp. He deserves everything he gets.

And let this be a lesson to politicians everywhere: don’t use easy to crack passwords or security questions that can be Googled from your bio.

Considering he was trying to derail her (and McCain’s campaign), this was more than just an ordinary hacking, just as the killing of a candidate for federal office is different than an ordinary murder. Interfering with one of the People’s choices for the Executive branch is quite serious. Let elections and other lawful means decide who is to serve us. Thugs like this punk do harm to our nation’s electoral system.

Lawyer will appeal the verdict on the grounds that the defendant is a Democrat, and is therefore immune to any findings of wrongdoing.

I hope you go to big boy jail David Kernell, where you get a haircut and they remove your snotty little rich boy smile permanently.

Oh, and I do hope they vote your daddy out of office next time around too.

Kernell gained access by providing Palin's birth date and ZIP code to Yahoo's password retrieval system

I understand prosecuting him but federal prison for this seems a bit severe.
