Laura Bush Tags 'Adversarial, Offensive' Reporters at WaPo, N.Y. Times By Tim Graham Created 04/30/2010 - 06:55
First Lady Laura Bush is "settling scores" in her new memoir, reported Washington Post writer Ann Gerhart [1] on Thursday, and several reporters from the New York Times and The Washington Post are called out:
The New York Times' Jason DeParle interviewed her "in a tone that was adversarial and more than a touch offensive." [DeParle is the Times reporter whose wife currently works for Obama.]
Jim VandeHei, then at The Washington Post, appalled her in Egypt when, during a presentation by the director of the Giza pyramid excavation project, he "elbowed his way to the front of the press pool, climbed onto the pyramid plateau and began shouting out questions" about Egyptian politics.
As an ever-watchful monitor of how her husband was portrayed in the press, she confronted Elisabeth Bumiller of the New York Times for using in a story an anecdote about George W. Bush at Yale that Laura Bush writes wasn't true. "While the truth may not be as interesting, it is the truth," she chides.
Then there is the anonymous female TV personality who steals hand towels:
Pilfering is a problem at the White House; guests sometimes walked out with hand towels stuffed in their jackets or purses; flatware disappeared from tables. "One prominent television personality [mmmm . . . who?!] was known for having a collection of White House paper hand towels, monogrammed with the presidential seal, in her powder room. She had 'accumulated' them when she came for interviews."
None of this material was on the front page of the Style section, where the article began. The only data the Post allowed on the front page was their favorite tidbit, that Mrs. Bush is liberal on abortion and homosexuality:
She recounts the moment when Katie Couric asked her if she believed the law permitting abortion should be overturned, and she expands her answer from then only slightly:
"We are a nation of different generations and beliefs, seeing issues through different eras and different eyes. While cherishing life, I have always believed that abortion is a private decision, and there, no one can walk in anyone else's shoes," she writes.
On gay marriage, she writes that before the beginning of the 2004 presidential campaign, "I had talked to George about not making gay marriage a significant issue. We have, I reminded him, a number of close friends who are gay or whose children are gay. But at that moment I could never have imagined what path this issue would take and where it would lead."
Gerhart snapped: "It led, of course, to a divisiveness which persists in American politics." Liberal reporters call an issue "divisive" when they cannot believe conservatives haven't surrendered yet.
“Liberal reporters call things decisive when they cant believe conservatives have surrendered yet.” So true, so true, so true. NEVER SURRENDER!!
First Lady Laura discusses issues with her President husband and he goes forward with what he believes is right. God will bless you, President Bush.
Well done. Laura Bush IS the picture of class. I look forward to reading her book.
Like me, the former First Lady has a higher regard
for her dogs than jaded MSM reporters.
I don’t recall ever seeing Laura Bush sitting in public with her knees shining and her dress hiked up half way to the stars as we saw yesterday with Mrs. Obama sitting next to her husband at Dr Height’s funeral.
Laure Bush always dressed appropriately and didn’t have a need to show off her arms or wear $500 sneakers to a chow line for the homeless.
Although I didn’t always agree with Laura’s stance on things, she was always a real lady. In fact, I’d say she was one of, if not the most, classy first lady our nation has ever had. (Unlike the current one.)
She is a class act, but she interferred too much as in the marriage thingy and “Dead or Alive”...she emaculated him.
She was a poison in the administration of “W” Bush. She stated that they had a lot of friends who were gay (homosexual is the correct term) or who’s children were homosexual.
How does one who is a conservative (?) find a lot of homosexual friends? It would seem one would have to choose to embrace them as friends instead of simply being properly cordial to them.
It seems evident who pulled “W’s” simple minded strings.
The job of the Bush wives has always been to wink and whisper to social liberals that they need not worry about their liberal causes. Their husbands’ may express conservative leanings to placate the conservative base, but never actually act upon them. Conservatives are addicted to being saps.
She was, as she should have been, a partner, a couselor, a strong supporter, his rock, his love.....but he, in the end, always did....ALWAYS.......what he believed to be best.
God bless them BOTH.
(President Bush has asked his brothers and sisters in Christ to continue to pray for them, and I believe we should do just that. He is the enemy of truly evil people).
Huhhh??? You don’t know much about his record do you, newbie?
The female TV personality could be Baba Wawa or Diane Sawyer or Oprah Winfrey her own self. Haha. Oh, maybe Robin Roberts...??
And of course we know whatever classy Laura is revealing is only the tip of an iceberg of trashy liberal behavior she has witnessed.
Lip service is cheap. What did either of the Bush Presidents ever do to reduce abortion? Are you really so uninformed that you don't know that the 2 Bush wives are pro-choice and sympathetic to homosexual interests?
Spare me the newbie crap. I may have joined FreeRepublic recently, but I've been a regular lurker for 12 years (back when it was still posted as a link on Drudge).
Also, I'm well informed about what Laura Bush thinks (your hyperbole is noted), and wonder if you also accuse Ronald Reagan of believing exactly what Nancy Reagan believed? That's a straw dog argument.
If you were involved in any pro-life organizations, you would be better informed. Try that first, and inform yourself on the record, before you post any more 'newbie crap.'
He is the most pro-LIFE President we have ever had.
Didn't proof read. Sigh.........
