Obama: Congress may not tackle immigration soon

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE — President Barack Obama said Wednesday that there "may not be an appetite" in Congress to deal with immigration immediately after going through a tough legislative year.

With energy legislation on the table and midterm elections approaching, Obama said he didn't want to force an immigration bill through Congress "just for the sake of politics." Still, he said discussions on the issue must move forward in a way that can garner the support of the American people.

"We've gone though a very tough year and I've been working Congress very hard, so I know there may not be an appetite immediately to dive into another controversial issue," the president told reporters aboard Air Force One returning with him to Washington from a Midwest trip.

The issue of immigration bubbled to the surface in recent weeks after Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a controversial bill into law requiring local and state law enforcement to question people about their immigration status if there's reason to suspect they're in the country illegally. The law also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally.

Obama has sharply criticized the law, asking the Justice Department to look into whether it violates civil rights. On Wednesday, he said he understands the frustrations of people in Arizona who are faced with thousands of immigrants coming into their state illegally, but he said the state's new immigration law would only end up polarizing the debate over reform.

Better a polarizinng debate than a state destroyed by doing nothing.

During the campaign, he promised border security would be a top priority in his first year.

I’m wondering if he is aware of how long he has been in the White House......

He;s liked about everything so far.....so if he says they aren’t taking it up soon, that means they are working on it and are going to sneak it in somewhere.

“An immigration proposal by three Democratic senators calls for more federal enforcement agents and other border security-tightening benchmarks before illegal immigrants could become legal U.S. residents, according to a draft of the legislation obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press. The bill is being developed by Reid of Nevada, Chuck Schumer of New York and Robert Menendez of New Jersey.”

Three (alleged) people that know NOTHING at all about immigration. I really thought this thread was missing the /sarc. Sadly, it is not.

Still, he said discussions on the issue must move forward in a way that can garner the support of the American people.

Good luck with that thought Prez Zero.

The public went ape in 07 on the issue when Bush, McCain and the Dems floated the trial balloon.

Things haven't improved since. The public has spoken and Bozo can talk till he is blue in the face, the public's mind has been made up and it isn't going to change.

Even if a bill was passed that included amnesty, all the hispanic, political groups will b!tch and moan about having to go through the real path to citizenship.

Their LAZY. They want someone to wave a magic wand over their head and say.... “congrats here’s your Social Security #”

They won’t pay the fines and won’t do the steps.

And they will be mad as hell at Obammy for signing a bill that makes them DO THE STEPS.

Bammy knows he’s in a no win situation on immigration, so he’s gonna slow walk it until after Nov when it won’t matter anymore.

There must have been some really strong blowback from many who do not want to deal with amnesty this year. Obama and Reid just days ago were promising to move amnesty along this year to mollify the Hispanic caucus and Hispanic groups.

If he sticks with this for now, it might make the May 1 pro-amnesty marches a little more intense and interesting, and more disgusting for the 70% or so of Americans who oppose amnesty.

Build the fence
Man the fence (agents, sensors, drones)
ENFORCE THE E-VERIFY RULES
Team up with the states
Harang “sacturary cities”
Random sweeps and surprise raids
“Sour the milk” to make illegals uncomfortable and paranoid
Tell Mexico to go F**K themselves

....and that’s just for starters.

Really? Just in case I’ll be staying wide awake, thankyou.

I’ll be surprised if they don’t try to sneak this thru.
