I also think it important to distinguish the fact that a P-3 is not a fighter aircraft.

P-3's can carry a range of very destructive weapons, from torps to Harpoons to Tomahawks to the Mark 101 nuclear depth bomb.

I'm sure they can carry Exocet and a variety of East Bloc AS weapons as well.

Perhaps so. That just bolster’s my point that the Navy ROE for enemy aircraft approaching a carrier presently sucks.
