I suppose I could be wrong, but I would think that there is a cone of defense around U.S. warships, especially Aircraft Carriers, which effectively is a no-fly-zone for enemy aircraft - 1000 yards would definitely fall within that cone and is not Iran's back yard. At least, under Reagan, Bush (the father), G.W. Bush, and possibly even Clinton that would be the case. For Obozo, he's not met an islamic extremest that he doesn't like.

They buzzed us all the time in '06-'07. I saw it with my own eyes on multiple occasions. We didn't shoot them out of the sky then because we knew they weren't a threat. Iran knows there will be severe consequences should they attack one of our carriers. So they don't. They just look around and we'll let them get close but not too close. Chasing them away is good practice for our pilots as well and they can do that without firing a shot.

Iranian P-3 flying by USS Harry S Truman in February 2008. This type of activity is nothing new. There is decades worth of such images in the US and allied databases. The Iranians will have similar images of US and allied patrol aircraft and vessels. To most freepers it comes as a shock, but to ex and serving Freepers it is puzzling why it even made the news?
