I am by no means an expert on poisoning, but it seems odd that someone would intend to poison but only succeed in making the target a little nauseous. Does this seem right?

My read as well. Is there some confusion about the word “poison”. If I get “food poisoning” it doesn’t really mean what most people think of when the word “poisoning” by itself is used.

I would guess that sometimes the point is not to kill, but to weaken a negotiating position. This was the G8 meeting.
