If I’m walking or riding my bike to the store, I don’t carry anything other than money, lots of people do. I’m not a criminal...or would I be if I didn’t carry the proper papers with me at all times?

I cannot imagine cops are going to be randomly asking people for papers. Generally they have to have some suspicion. There are PLENTY of illegals they stop for some other reason - you know, driving down the wrong side of the freeway at 90 MPH, etc.

You can't really be as stupid as you sound. This law in now way gives officers the right to stop anyone simply because they want to. It does give them the right to ask for ID if they stop someone for a traffic violation or some other infraction of the law. Once they have the ID, or lack of it, they can then check the persons legal status. It is a not brainer. Neither you or anyone else is in danger of being asked for ID simply because you are out walking around, or even driving.

You are putting up obstacles that don't exist.

This tells me you are either illegally here or have friends or relatives who are here illegally.
