Former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth turned in more than 11,000 signatures to the Arizona Secretary of States Office on April 26, putting an official stamp on his challenge to Sen. John McCain.
Hayworth submitted about double the 5,609 signatures he needs to qualify for the Aug. 24 primary ballot. As he turned in his signatures, the 12-year congressman also reiterated his call for McCain to square off with him in 15 debates, one in each Arizona county.
There has been no formal response from Sen. McCain himself and just a statement from his campaign that they would wait until I was a certified candidate, Hayworth said of his debate challenge. Now is the time to debate the issues. Sen. McCain, I look forward to your acceptance of this change to get together to discuss the issues.
A spokesman for McCain did not return messages, and it was unclear whether the senator would agree to any debates with Hayworth.

Dear John McCain: Thanks for your service, but your time is up. Please retire. Don’t make this ugly.
Sweet! I hope JD keeps the pressure on McCain.
Has Hayworth made any specific public statement on the AZ bill just signed? I don’t see it on his website.
We here in Mohave County, AZ have invited Sen. McCain to debate JD Hayworth at a TownHall on May 22nd. He finally declined the invitation.
McLame is too busy RINOing, no time for de bating.
