Extremism -- not. AZ picks up where feds failed
NY Post ^ | April 27, 2010 | Rich Lowry

In the case of the new Arizona immigration law, the reductio ad hitlerum occurred instantly.

Cardinal Roger Mahony wrote in a blog post, "I can't imagine Arizonans now reverting to German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques." The president of the Hispanic Federation said the law "reminded me of Nazi Germany." Cooler heads merely compared it to apartheid or 1960s-era civil-rights abuses.

Here I thought the tea par tiers were befouling our political discourse with their overheated words. They don't hold a candle to His Eminence or the assorted other hysterics decrying the rise of totalitarianism in the American Southwest.

Arizona's offense is to attempt to enforce the nation's immigration laws, in the absence of any serious commitment to do so on the part of the federal government or our political class.

It is pretty clear which side the extremism is on. The left once again shows it’s hand!

Does Mahony know that the Jews were lawful citizens of Germany and each and every other country of origin? Does Mahony know that the United States has immigration laws that are not being enforced? Does Mahony know the difference between a lawful citizen and an illegal immigrant?

I truly do not understand why the Cardinal is so judgmental and quick to condemn law abiding citizens. It is true that many Hispanics are honest and hard-working, and just want to enjoy the benefits of US citizenship. But, by jumping the line did they not displace others who wait? How does the Cardinal explain this? Jesus was not subject to the law of Moses, yet to teach obedience, he submitted to the laws. What example is the Cardinal giving to us by encouraging otherwise? It is confusing and counter-productive IMO.

Sharpton was on Hannity last night, doing his obnoxious best to shout down rational thought and truth. I really loathe that man.

The Arizona law makes it a state crime for aliens not to have immigration documents on their person. This sounds draconian, except it's been a federal crime for more than half a century -- USC 1304(e). Has the open-borders crowd forgotten that it calls illegal aliens "undocumented" for a reason?

Obambi going out and shooting his ignorant trap off about AZ's law somehow reminds me of Waxman ginning up showtrials to prove how wrong the CEOs announcing huge Obamacare revenue slams were.

NOT.

I can't believe we have a President of the United States who has no more sense than to let his Radical pants down on the ground every time he opens his mouth, without -- as we saw so vividly in the embarrassing events leading up to the Beer Summit -- having "all the facts."

How about even a few of the facts, Mr. President?

How embarrassing will it be for the Progs when they find out that, oops, AZ's law does nothing more except enforce FEDERAL LAW? Not that the Progs themselves will be embarrassed (what embarrasses them: nothing). But politically, I don't care who you are, that's funny.

Keep it up, Sharpton. Having you out there reminds people how pernicious the Prog Plantation really is.

On a rational level the left loses the argument when they trot out the Nazi Germany canard. I mean, I am an avid student of history, but I don’t recall — in any of my studies — that Jews were breaking the law to sneak into Nazi Germany in the 1930s and early 1940s. But, perhaps that tidbit can be found in the revisionist history books that now grace our public school system?

The best line of the editorial is in the closing paragraph. "Sanctuary Cities" beware, you may get more than you bargained for if you press the case of Arizona as evil.

Critics accuse the state of unconstitutionally devising its own immigration policy. If it had unilaterally declared its border open to the poor, violence-plagued country to its south, this charge might have force.

The Arizona law was written so that it followed existing federal immigration law so as to avoid legal battles. Now Mugabe’s justice dept is going to launch an investigation into the state law. This is nothing but a smackdown from uncle suger telling a State to stay out of their business never mind that uncle suger is intentionally leaving the border wide open. DC doesn’t give a damn unless it affects them. Phoenix is the kidnapping capital of the western world and the feds do nothing. Angel resendez (the railroad killer) murders people all over the central US and here in Texas, and the feds do nothing. Hundreds of US Taxpaying citizens are killed in DWI accidents (repeat offenders) by illegals and the feds do nothing. A rancher in Arizona is murdered on his property and the feds do nothing. Arizona finally drew a line in the sand and stated that this crap stops now. And the feds are going to investigate (read block this). Just Damn.

Don’t bother looking for logic or facts in anything a demagogue says, even if he’s wearing a Roman collar and a mitre.

That type of agitator tramples the truth for the sake of getting a cheap emotional response from the gullible.

When police pick up illegals in AZ, they should hand them a list of sanctuary cities in other states.

Since the feds are NOT going to collect and deport them anyway.

No, not a “rematch.” They think they can bluff us into surrendering on the basis of PCness.
