While no US military leader has, to this point, behaved in such a way to invite that comparison - Americans should NOT drop their guard and believe that they too can not be sold out to their enemies by men with gloriously patriotic military records or resumes.
But as for the joke of General Jones, along the same line let me ask the question this way:
What would you think of one of FDR's Generals, if during the 1930s, while giving a speech to an audience including Nazis, he told a joke about a Nazi wandering out of a desert who "arrives at a store run by a Jew and asks for water" and is not given water but is instead bounced back and forth between two Jewish businessman? Do you think the Nazis would merely consider those Jews humorously "clever?" Do you think many Muslims do not see Jews as Nazis did?
If that joke were told as you posited, I would think that the joke was on the Nazi because he’s pretty stupid. Would we think the Jewish merchants were greedy if we inserted dumb blonds in the joke?
I’m glad you made the point that you were not comparing people like Jones, Petraeus and McChrystal to Qjuisling or Petain. As I said previously, lets judge these men by their actions. I have criticized numerous former military men on here such as Wesley Clarke, John Murtha and Joe Sestack. But I criticized them for their policies, their actions and what they believed. Not because they were associated with Obama.
