At a time when the nation's fastest-growing union is starting to fall victim to its own aggression, some question whether Anna Burger -- who may be in line to replace SEIU President Andy Stern -- can deliver anything but more of the same.
For nearly three decades, Anna Burger has followed Andy Stern like a shadow in her rise through the ranks of the American labor movement.
She succeeded Stern as president of their local Pennsylvania shop when he left for Washington in the mid-'80s. She later tagged along to the capital, and a few years after Stern won the presidency of the Service Employees International Union in 1996, she was elevated to secretary-treasurer.

Hmmmm ..?? The other day I was thinking that maybe Stern had resigned from SEIU because he was going to be rewarded with an appointment .. ??
And then .. I thought about what Obama said: He commented something about appointing somebody for the Supreme Court - who wasn’t a lawyer .. somebody who was more interested in the needs of the people (paraphrased).
So .. I’m wondering if Obama is going to nominate Stern for the Justice position ..??
Are there any seiu member on FR? It would sure be nice to understand the feeling in the ranks about what seiu does.
LOL! ‘Ma Burger and her Boys’!
Burger, born in Levittown, Pennsylvania, and daughter of a disabled truck driver and a nurse, began her activist career in 1972 as a Welfare worker. It was there she became involved in her local union. Burger organized a walkout in efforts to create a safer working environment for the office.

The Next Potential SEIU Head, Anna Burger, Calls for NLRB to Force Card Check
While the Alliance for Worker Freedom and Americans for Tax Reforms request to investigate Anna Burgers status as a, potentially, unregistered lobbyist remains unanswered by U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and Clerk of the House of Representatives Lorraine C. Miller, the Secretary of the Senate Nancy Ericksons office responded to AWF/ATRs late last month.

ACORN Part II: Anna Burger, SEIU and the Change to Win story
In February of 2009, Ms. Burger was appointed by President Obama to his Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Announced on November 26, 2008, the Presidents Economic Recovery Advisory Board (PERAB) is a new panel of non-governmental experts from business, labor, academia and elsewhere that President Obama instituted on February 6, 2009. The board reports regularly to Obama and his economic team on the current economic crisis and develops proposals that are then recommended to President Obama.
Anna Burger is a key member of this Board, also having been active in the Progressive Labor Movement for over 30 years, with leadership roles in organizations such as SEIU (and ACORN), They Work for Us, and Change to Win. She campaigned heavily for Obama, and invested millions in advertising, campaigning, canvassing and organizing in support of Obama. In fact, through SEIU, she filed almost $28 Million worth of expenses with the FEC (see report below) in support of Obama during the election (and another $3.5 Million in ads against John McCain). Given that she has aggressively pushed the Economic Recovery Act from her position as economic adviser to Obama, as well as a progressive agenda that includes the same Health Care initiatives as the presidents, Id say this seems like quite a big conflict of interest. But Ill address that in more detail later.
MSEA, Maine State Employees Association is part of the SEIU.
I think I speak for a good number of rank and file when I say that the SEIU is a far-left wing organization and that if there were alternatives we would leave. I am a member of MSEA.
Do you have to be under an umbrella group like seiu, can you just go independent. Back in the 80s I was working in aerospace, first on aircraft then on spacecraft, in both jobs I had to be part of the UAW. Personally, I think these unions are too big and need to be broken up.
Somebody Else's Income Usurped.
I actually had a conversation with that chick at a bar at the philadelphia airport a little over a year ago. Pure unadulterated scary nutcase.
