WI allows you to register to vote using several forms of ID. This is because "supposedly" elderly people, poor people, non-drivers, etc. don't have access to regular ID. The main ID here is your driver's license, or state ID for those without DLs, or utility bill with your address on it, or bank statement or credit card statement with your address on it, along with the last 4 digits of your SS number.

Of course, when registering new voters, I cannot look at the SS card, or the DL. It has me screaming at every training! But, I have to write down the document number of every secondary doc used for ID. And if you have no cdocs? No problem. Bring a neighbor who is a registered voter to vouch for you.

If you have no permanent address? No problem. The state provides a little diagram on the registration form where you can designate the street corner where you hang out. Just ID the street names and the neares landmarks -- you know, I live in that cardboard box next to the public library!

The fallacy of all this is that those who want to beat the system can just lie, and I have no way of checking. University students brag about doing it all the time -- and voting twice. One election they had 3000 more students voting from a dorm in Madison than actually lived there. And that's not counting those who came home and voted from home too.

There is supposed to be a system in place to cross check all these votes, but it is not working yet, even though it was supposed to be in place in 2006.

Even if fraud is proven, the votes are already counted and there is nothing you can do about it. If 100 votes are found to be fraudulent (unlikely because they really make it hard to check) the worst they could do would be to subtract 50 votes from each candidate.
