The Republican Party has not given African Americans a good reason to vote for the party, Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele said Tuesday night.
"You really don't have a reason to, to be honest -- we haven't done a very good job of really giving you one. True? True," Steele said at DePaul University, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Steele, the first African-American chairman for the RNC, said the GOP has lost its historical link to African Americans.
"This party was co-founded by blacks, among them Frederick Douglass," he said. "The Republican Party had a hand in forming the NAACP, and yet we have mistreated that relationship. People don't walk away from parties, their parties walk away from them."

I agree but, my daughter will grow a pair before the RNC does.
He’s like Gen Powell in many ways. The Republicans gave them a hand up and they used it very well for their purposes. When he is finished in the RNC, he will still pretend to be a Republican, but will prove to be a very progressive republican and side with the democrats, many times.
Steele is incompetent.
Well the Republicans cast their pearls before the swine and the swine has trampled them under foot and has turned and is rending the Republicans.
General Powell turned out to be utterly clueless. Can you believe that it was just about a year ago when Powell declared that what Americans want is bigger government and higher taxes? What an idiot. Put him right with Barbara Streisand. Good singer, tin ear for politics.
We’s got our own Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson rolled into one! The Rinos really stepped in it when they insisted on this racist fool to run the GOP!
