I was staying in London for a time, and needed a hernia operation. I went to a doctor, and he told me I MUST lose 22 pounds first. I told them my American insurance would cover it regardless. He wouldn’t move. I flew home, got it done with a top notch surgeon, at a top notch hospital 4 days later(Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, Ca.) and have been fine ever since.

Look out, folks !! I wasn’t fat ;-)

Some possibilities:

1. The British NHS has some weird rules.

2. The doctor didn't know WTF he was doing.

3. The doctor was looking for an excuse to make you wait.

These possibilities are not necessarily exclusive.

I like Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok. No appointment needed, quick service, great medical care, cheap.
