On Thursday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 3217, the financial regulation bill. This is the Democrats’ partisan bill that was reported out of the Senate Banking Committee on April 15 by a vote of 13-10 (no Republicans supported the bill in committee).
The cloture vote is set for Monday, April 26, at 5:00 pm. It is doubtful that Democrats have the votes to end debate at this point on the massive 1,400-page bill.
The president tried to sell the notion in a New York speech yesterday that this partisan bill will end bailouts at taxpayer expense. What the bill actually does is set up a system of permanent bailouts for businesses the government deems “too big to fail.”

You got that right. I don’t see a “recovery” in this country until Fannie and Freddie are “reformed”. Unfortunately, that won’t happen until Frank and Dodd are both in jail.
No point in dragging the good name of Fannie & Freddie into this, after all it evil greedy capitalist that caused the melt down. And even if it was Fannie & Freddie fault, it was all Bush’s doing. /s
Dems could get compromise legislkationgilation, but apparently some idiot thinks that if they can paint the Republicans as protecting Wall Street they have a better campaign issue. It isn’t going to work and they better look over their shoulder because here comes Immigration Reform. Obama threw down the guanlet today when he called thwe Arizona legislation “misguided” and asked the DOJ to get it tossed out by a Federal Judge which will happen. This is going to be the big fight this summer and you can look for it to dominate talk shows starting next week.
