Armed militia organizing in Cochise County

Bill Davis is calm and methodical as he describes his group's goals.

You could say he has a deadly earnestness.

"If we think they're carrying drugs, weapons, contraband, we'll get out in front of 'em and stop 'em," says Davis. "They won't get past us. You can write into that what you want, short of shooting them."

Davis is recruiting combat veterans, with kill records, to camp out and patrol along the border, and he isn't afraid to let the world know.

"I want the word to get out, and I'm sure it is, that the routine isn't going to be tolerated anymore," he adds.

Why kill records? Davis says he wants professionals-- "no wannabes, no Rambos."

"If it comes to when shots are fired in the general direction of these guys, they have my authorization to return fire, if they're in defense of their life or their buddy next to them, return fire, stop it as fast as it starts, and they're capable of it.

And as fast as it starts, believe me, they'll stop it," promises Davis.

"It's very dangerous, and it's very risky," says Tony Estrada, Sheriff of neighboring Santa Cruz County. "They don't know exactly what these cartels reaction is going to be if they get in the way."

Estrada worries members of the militia could get caught in a crossfire between law enforcement and traffickers. He also says smugglers could view militia as 'rip-off artists'.

"These individuals that are moving people or drugs through these remote areas of the border will stop at nothing," adds Estrada.

In any event, Davis says he has received 8,000 applications for the armed patrols from all over the US and Canada and could have several dozen militia members ready to act within a few hours notice.

"What we do is we act as a glorified neighborhood watch, and we're a deterrent," he says.

Frankly I’d like to see some of this.

You know, I just can’t seem to find it in my heart to object to this.

Fall down and bleed? Sounds like the outcome Mr. Davis has in mind.

I’m betting that most of the drug activity takes place at a NORMAL border crossing, but I could be wrong in view of boat and airplane stories.

I'm sure there are widows of police and public officials you could ask. Or maybe look to the rancher that was found murdered on his own propery.

I'd advise they "go big" or go home.

I’d advise they “go big” or go home.

The retaliation factor on our soil is the unknown that no one wants to contemplate, and a dang good reason for a change in the border control, or lack of, and a wholesale change in the WOD.

From the sheer volume, I suspect most of the truly bulk shipments come over water than over land.

And of course, much of the pot and virtually all of the meth are made in the USA.

In any event, God knows it is no arduous task to find cocaine in the US.

I am told by older gentlemen who live along the border that there have already been cases of ranchers applying the three S’s on cross-border predators

The feds are not going to do their job of securing the border. Glad to see we have patriots willing to step up and do it.

I'm surprised it's taken this long.

Seems like the US Government would have an organization capable of this job....like....some sort of border group with guns. Maybe a patrol of some sort.

Or a military. I've heard of other governments that have military groups....called "armies" that defend the borders of those countries.

It's weird. It seems like we'd have something like that.

Ha! When would the Obummer administration ever authorize any LEO to fire on someone crossing the border into the US illegally?

Well before Obama's inauguration many of us predicted that he would fail to police the border against future Democrat voters. That prediction was easy.

Equally easy is the observation that American citizens will do what they have done since before Lexington and Concord, since even before the French and Indian war, that is, they will form militias to protect themselves against tyrants and criminals.

The real battle is not on the borders but on the television screens where the war over illegal immigration will be won or lost. Obama and the Democrats will pander to the Hispanic vote and the Republicans like Lindsey Graham will waffle as Obama plays the race card. The question is, where will the country be?

As in virtually every case, politics in America is not local but ultimately racial.
