Defector calls N. Korean leader 'bad jerk' not even worth cursing
SEOUL, April 22 (Yonhap) -- A high-ranking North Korean defector on Thursday called the communist regime's leader Kim Jong-il a "bad jerk" who is "not even worth cursing" for allegedly sending two spies to assassinate him in South Korea.
Hwang Jang-yop said Kim could not have plotted to kill his teacher if he had even an inch of conscience as a human.
"I'm a teacher of those who taught Kim Jong-il. If he had a bit of conscience as a human..." Hwang Jang-yop said in a radio program taped for broadcast on Monday, slurring the end of his sentence.

P!
Not sure I’d trust this character....something doesn’t smell right.
Yep. That Kim Jong Il is HORRIBLE!
Now here is a long story.:-)
I watched him for several years. He made many speeches, wrote articles, and gave numerous interviews. As a highest ranking defector with intimate knowledge of inner working of the regime, he is a valuable source of information. Many of his comments sound legit. He is clearly against Kim Jong-il and his regime.
On the other hand, he has nothing but good things to say about Kim's dad, Kim Il-sung, the founder of N. Korea and its Stalinist personality cult. He sounded like a Kim Il-sung protege 'wronged' by Kim Jong-il. This in and out of itself is not a problem. However, his constant positive comments about Kim the senior made me suspect that he is running his own agenda which may not match with ours. Another thing who bothered me is that he is trying to repackage and resurrect his Juche ideology as some humanitarian philosophy. He insists that his philosophy was hijacked by regime and distorted, which I do not buy.
Several years ago, he and his close aide(who defected with him) had a nasty fallout. U.S. approached Hwang with the idea of creating 'NK gov. in exile.' His aide was all for it, but Hwang vehemently opposed it. They are not speaking to each other since then, as far as I know. It seems that he is harboring an ambition to take over N. Korean regime after Chia Head is gone, and run it his way. Or at least try to put a brake on what SK and U.S. have been working on previously. He is saying he wants Kim regime gone, but always balks at some decisive measures to eliminate his regime.
He may be too old to become another NK leader after Chia Head is gone. He is 87 years old. But advanced age never stopped people from nurturing political ambition. Some accuse him of being a double agent, but I would not go that far. Rather, he want to salvage N. Korea the way he see it right. Anti-Kim Jong-il N. Korea but still the land of the Great Leader Kim Il-sung, with Chinese style communist regime. No drastic action, just lots of humanitarian activism and balloon launching. Lots of diplomacy to cozy up with Chinese regime, who would be impressed by such a good will enough to do something about Kim Jong-il.
N. Korean regime is still his baby, and he hates Chia Head ruining it. I think he fears legitimacy of N. Korean regime is completely destroyed. He likes half-way repair something along the line of China. He is saying that Kim Jong-il and his men are evil but N. Korean state is not, even though he interject comments about general atmosphere of casual brutality in N. Korea.
He was one of them for such a long time. I can see that it created some attachment to the system however terrible its nature is. However, such a view is coloring his advice and policy suggestions. Many so-called conservative figures were taken in by him.
In a nutshell, my suspicion ranges from harboring political ambition in post-Kim Jong-il NK to rather disturbing attachment to N. Korean state.
A well-placed superspy? That is not impossible, but a remote possibility for now.
As opposed to being a “good jerk”?
Bump.
Hell , I’ll curse him if this guy won’t.
And I do.
How old was he when he crossed over?
I think if anything ever is done about the leadership in N.Korea... would have to be someone who could take the people in measured steps from the mindset they have been indoctrinated with....
What is very difficult to detect, for me, are the videos showing the people and hearing them speak of their “dear leader”......are they doing so because they really believe what they are saying or are they so afraid to say anything else would be a death sentence?... Maybe some of both. But whatever the depth of mind control these people would not adjust easily to “freedom” or how to function in it.
The videos of those who have come over show that some ‘Miss’ the structured life they had known and find it difficult making decisions for themselves....understandably so. A whole nation has been abused like an abused wife might be.....so reforming the people slowly might include something like what China has...minus the abuse.
It is fear, but the line between fear and belief gets blurry when you are exposed to indoctrination for a long time.
They are definitely unhappy. The system failed them. However, bad habit is still a habit, even when their mind know that it is wrong.
Their belief is breaking down. Brainwashed folks in cult commune are getting out of their mental trap, but old habit comes out unconsciously.
It may take a long time, but if you have some insider in power who can regress it back if they wishes(think Putin,) the progress is more in danger of backslide.
OH OH so I am confused he was Chia Pet teacher at one time OH MAN so what you give crazy Roaney leader like Little Kim for grade on try assasinate people LOL!
F?
Kim is only worth a squeeze of my index finger. That’s all the energy I’d waste on him.
Good analysis.
