The Egyptians initiated the war when they blockaded the port of Eilat in the Red Sea on May 22-23, 1967. Just thought I'd make that correction.
It isn't a war until the shooting starts. They may have taken actions (sending away the UN forces, moving large forces across Sinai and closing the straights, that made war inevitable. But it was without doubt the Israelis that fired the first shot. I don't blame them, if they had waited for Egypt to fire first they wouldn't have survived, but they did shoot first.
