We don’t know that he was legally adopted by Soetoro. I don’t necessarily believe that gramps was dad but it’s an interesting theory and is possible. It always seemed off to me that his mom held her daughter closely, but has no problem shipping black Barry off to live with and be raised by his grandparents. I’m not buying the story that she wanted him to have a good education for one second. If that was the case, she would have done the say with his sister. I also find it odd that Barry was shipped home the same year that FMD was divorced and his wife moved out. There are so many possibilities. Take your pick and choose the one that most match the real facts and relevant known circumstantial evidence:

1. Anne and Sr. were the parents and he was born in Hawaii
2. Anne and Sr. were the parents and he was born elsewhere.
3. Anne adopted him, she doesn’t know who the father is.
4. He was grandmas son as the result of a 3 way with gramps and FMD.
5. He was the fathered by gramps and the mother was the black bar tender in the black bar that he frequented(the one Barry talks about in Dreams)
6. Anne didn’t have a clue which black guy in Seattle is the father of Barry but that makes no sense to me, why would Sr. give him his name? Sr. would most likely only give him his name if he were indeed his son, OR to cover for FMD.

I think Gramps and Anne are involved because the first time I saw their photos I immediately thought he favored them. The long chin, like the Jay Leno chin is a dominant trait.

There is so much that can only be speculated or surmised; the lack of documentation prevents absolute certainties. Hopefully that will be taken care of in the not too far away future.

Sven Magnussen states that Soetoro did adopt him and also that he did renounced his US citizenship in Indonesia at the US Embassy; I’m sure you’ve read his comments. I think he may be connected with some case that is working its way through things.

At any rate, 0bama is mentioned in SADO and Soetoro’s divorce papers, even though (IIRC) he was over 18 at the time. If he had not been adopted, why would he have been mentioned at all (although his name was not mentioned).

I got the impression - remember the letters or something from the Indo nanny who was barely older than 0bama? - that he was troublesome over in Indo; often men who marry women with previous children have a hard time with the kids that aren’t theirs. Not always of course, but it happens.
