Shocking New Knox Twist (Italian Prosecutors Appeal Knox Sentence)

In a surprising move this weekend, the prosecution appealed its own murder conviction of Amanda Knox. Barbie Latza Nadeau, author of the Beast Book Angel Face, says the move could put Knox in prison for life—or set her free.

Appeals were filed this weekend in the Meredith Kercher murder case in Perugia, Italy.

But Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, who were convicted of Kercher’s murder in December 2009, are not the only ones asking the Perugia appeals court to reconsider their decision. In a surprise twist, Perugia prosecutors are also appealing the court’s ruling.

Co-prosecutors Giuliano Mignini and Manuela Comodi are asking the appeals court to give life sentences to both Knox and Sollecito. Knox was sentenced to 26 years and Sollecito to 25 for the sexual assault and murder of Meredith Kercher. Knox’s additional year was for falsely accusing Patrick Lumumba of the murder. In the 13-page brief obtained by The Daily Beast, the prosecution is asking the court to reconsider the extenuating circumstances the jury found in the case. The jury did not give Knox and Sollecito life sentences due to a lack of motive, their ages, and the absence of a prior criminal record. But Mignini said the judge should have given a harsher penalty for the murder precisely because of those factors and that the murder was found to be so cruel and casual. “You must exclude the petty motive and give a punishment that fits this crime,” the appeal brief argues. “What the court described as a motive is indeed disproportionate between 'reason' and 'action'… the punishment must fit the crime.”

I thought the sentences were appropriate. It was a horrible crime, but I don’t think we’ll ever know all the details of what happened or who did what.

strictly on a first impression, this Knox girl strikes me as a rich, selfish, silver spoon type girl, indulged her whole life....

don't know if she is innocent or guilty....but there is a lesson to be learned....don't be partying in foreign countries like you own the place and no one would ever find out what you're doing....

America even with the obamination is still the best country in the worldl, the fairest, with the best chance of seeing justice...

these kids think they can behave like animals in other countries and get away with it..

Are you joking? Obviously, if Knox is innocent, she should be released immediately, but if she did do it, the only appropriate punishment for murdering someone like that is death, or at the very least life without parole. 25 years is not good enough. She might be released from prison, but Meredith Kercher will still be dead...

Are you suggesting that Amanda Knox is the victim of Mickey Mouse ‘forn’ justice? I could point out plenty of cases in the US were innocent people have spent decades in prison or on death row before being found innocent (and those are just the ones we know about, there are no doubt many more still incarcerated in America who are innocent, particularly ones were local DAs refuse to allow DNA tests for older cases because the results might make them look bad at election time. The American justice system isn’t necessarily the beacon to the world that you seem to think it is...
