I am learning, also. After 9-11 I purchased a set of the Great Books of the Western World because I knew instinctively that the attack was one on Plato, Aristotle, and all of the philosophers as much as it was an attack on the buildings themselves. This Tea Party Movement has the feel of pre-independence sentiment, that has been reinforced by what I have learned by these lectures. They are not on sale anymore, though you can sign up to be notified when it does come on sale again. I wrote to the Teaching Company today begging them to put it back up again. The speaker is unequivocal in his passion for the intellectual pedigree of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. He even spoke of the true meaning of “Happiness,” which means, from the original Greek, “a happy spirit” (happiness) and “to flourish,” which should not be confused with “prosper.” Indeed, to flourish means to grow in every manner, physically, spiritually, and in maturity. Our language has been degraded; happiness has been conflated with pleasure.
