A Shadow Warrior Falls
The Washington Times ^ | 4/17/2010 | Kenneth Timmerman

The CIA quietly announced the "resignation" of its deputy director on Wednesday, accompanied by all the accolades normally reserved for a top government official forced to resign in disgrace.

There were many reasons why Stephen R. Kappes needed to resign at age 60, five years before the agency's mandatory retirement age. Even the CIA's Greek chorus at The Washington Post and the New York Times have acknowledged that this mandarin had no clothes.

The immediate cause appears to have been the catastrophic operation on Dec. 30 in Khost, Afghanistan, that cost the lives of seven people and maimed several others when an al Qaeda double agent, Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, was trustingly brought onto a U.S. forward operating base without undergoing a body search.

Mr. Kappes was so enthusiastic about the prospect of having a source who had infiltrated the highest levels of al Qaeda that he reportedly briefed President Obama in person before the disaster.

In keeping with Mr. Kappes' long record of failure as an operations chief, the would-be mole had not been recruited by a CIA case officer and was not a unilateral American asset. He was being offered to the CIA by Jordanian intelligence.

"Kappes transformed CIA operations into a liaison service," a former senior CIA operations officer told me. By that, he meant that Mr. Kappes no longer insisted that CIA case officers recruit agents and clandestine intelligence sources themselves, but rely on the cooperation and the offerings of "friendly" intelligence services willing to take the risks.

The background story of the 12/30/2009 bombing inside the gates of the U.S. forward operating base at Khost, Afghanistan is simply incredulous. That such a liberal dishonest weenie reaches the highest level of our clandestine services is appalling. You'd think something like this only happens on a episode of '24' or in a Tom Clancy novel. But with 0bama and Feinstein in charge, it will get even worse.

The U.S. govt is now filled with Muslim Brotherhood moles. My guess is intel is getting back to the Taliban and Al Qeada to kill our soldiers.

The double agent was “served up” by Jordanian Intelligence.
That says it all...

Quite. Kappes out is good news, however, the replacement that Panetta appoints may be no better.

From what I've gathered here on FR, The CIA is infested with leftists.

If this scene were in a movie I would be groaning at the writers for laying it on too thick, it is incredibly stupid, she actually had her people mass together for the bomber.

From the article:

“Take the operation in Khost. The woman put in charge of the base was trained as a reports officer, not a clandestine operator. Because she wanted the new agent the Jordanians were handing her to “feel comfortable,” she organized a mass welcoming party for him at Forwarding Operating Base Chapman in Khost and rejected requests from security contractors that the agent undergo a search before being allowed onto the U.S. base.

When al-Balawi got out of the car and saw the crowd, an eyewitness who survived the attack says he began praying under his breath and then blew himself up.”

It would certainly never have happened under the direction of a real clandestine operator, like Reagan’s chief, William J.Casey who was OSS. Our human intelligence and clandestine service is a disaster because of “weenies” like this guy Kappes who set back getting bin Laden (more precisely Zawahiri)probably a decade. But this is the kind of guy the democrats loved, because Porter Goss knew what he was and got rid of him. So Kappes feeds anti-Bush stuff to the dems, and was no doubt involved in the Plame incident, providing cover for Armitage. A bunch of pussies covering each other’s rear while our humint knowledge is compromised. Good riddance, and little hope for much better under Panetta—bami ain’t going to let this section be effective as it would compromise HIS reality of identity.

Truly. Woman at the head is a “report writer”... equal opp hire who want’s a break out session with all of the plant’s friends and, as head of the op gets the real deal people in the same area and some of them are killed. Thank God some laid back and survived. The whole story is nuts. In the real world of recruitment no woman would stand any kind of chance in the muslim underworld. Mossad rules, like “Moscow rules” of engagement. This is human to human contact and has to have checks on the process for verity.

The CIA became PC over 20 years ago. Their trust with the people I knew was zero. They would leave agents out in the cold if it meant a political gain or saving a political loss.
