I keep thinking about that DHS memorandum that was released several months ago, and those whom it classified as “possible domestic terrorist” threats. Combine that memorandum with the stipulation in this Bill that the POTUS has the final authority to determine a “belligerent’s” status, and every alarm in the house is going off.
Should that hour ever come, I pray for the courage to honor those that founded this great country and to fight for my posterity(for those in Rio Linda--those are the folks to be born in the future).
“but holding an enemy prisoner of war without trial for the duration of hostilities is the norm within the international law of warfare. In fact, if the enemy is an illegal combatant, he can be executed (but, I believe some sort of trial is required before doing so).
It seems to me that McCain may be discovering the international law of warfare, which he didnt seem to understand during Bushs administration.”
If that is so, then why do we need this further legislation in the first place?
What does it say about you that you're loyal to posting and believing nonsense from the Birch society?
An excellent "connect-the-dots" type of observation.
I think we will be seeing other connections of seemingly previously unrelated actions coming together.Zero and his regime telegraph their intentions to the faithful--if you know what to look for.
This is their hour, and they will not cease to attempt total control if they have the chance.
Amen to that.
Exactly right. It is a far to powerful authorization for ANY President, even more dangerous with this crew in the White House!
Spot on. Some "heat" needs to be applied to those who sponsored. They need to "consider" the consequences. I suspect they have not adequately done so.
LOVE your tagline!
Fortunately, people who were silent about Bush’s attempt to deprive an American citizen, Jose Padilla, of the right to habeus corpus are finally beginning to wake up.
From reading the text of the bill, anyone, within the US or outside the US, citizen or non-citizen, who is deemed to have materially supported hostile actions against the US government, can be detained indefinately.
The problem is, the President just has to say you’re an enemy belligerent, and nobody ever hears from you again.
Yep, that's probably better than my clever taglines.
Blind loyalty and misplaced loyalty are never good character attributes, are they, Lakeshark?
Why are you defending McCain and his despicable actions in this particular case?
Geez, this guy is such a dangerous loose cannon.
It's hard to fathom how dumb someone has to be to get involved with the JBS.
Guess he must think if he can withstand all those years in the HH all Americans can withstand it..
Let’s hope the citizens of Arizona defeat this guy. He has been in the Senate way too long as have many others of both sides of the aisle.
Republicans Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, Jeff Sessions of Alabama
I wasnt particularly stunned that McCain is pushing this, but Inhofe and Sessions??? What the ??? Are we missing something here??

Treason is like baseball for Senators ...
“Geez, this guy is such a dangerous loose cannon.”
Quote from the article:
“Cosponsors of the bill include Democrat/independent Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut and Republicans Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Scott Brown of Massachusetts, Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, David Vitter of Louisiana, George LeMieux of Florida, and Roger Wicker of Mississippi.”
And what about the other eight US Senators who are co-sponsoring the bill with McCain?
