Dunno about fifty years ago, but forty years ago when I was on the football team we dressed up as girls for some gag cheerleading skits. A small town I used to live in had the local townsmen dress up as women for a “beauty contest” fund raiser every year.
Before getting outraged, I’d check to see if they were trying to make the boys really dress in drag or if it was being done for laughs.

Adults voluntarily dressing in “drag” is not the issue. After all, cross-dressing is hardly unknown in the theatrical world. I always thought it a trifle weird, even at events like Harvard’s annual Hasty Pudding Club supper, but if it’s all done in fun: well - fine, then. My not-unfounded suspicion is that a purposeful indoctrination was at work here, and performed upon impressionable schoolchildren as a means of challenging both social norms and parental authority. We’ll see.

Doing dress-up voluntarily and for laughs is one thing, giving them no choice is another. The key word here is voluntary, which this was not.

This was third grade students not high school students. I think the age difference is the big factor. It wasn’t a gag thing but a history lesson. It really isn’t age appropriate to be honest.

We did the same thing, but for the girl's football(tag) game.

There's a picture of us in the school yearbook.

We did it because we wanted to. Because it was a tradition. And because the cheerleaders helped us get 'fitted', if you know what I mean.

AND we weren't in third grade, and no one told us we HAD TO do it.

Perhaps you haven't noticed, but social reformers are entirely without a sense of humor. For me, it's getting harder and harder to even crack a smile. There just isn't too much that is very amusing, anymore.

Ever notice what the Left thinks is "funny?" I'm getting sort of tired of being patient and understanding about sub-human political retards daring me to shoot them in the face.

These were "harmless" seeds of a revolution that has now come to full bloom. Today, these things can no longer be passed off as a "joke."

Our football players did the same thing 55 years ago for a Senior Assembly for a big guffaw. Balloons under sweaters and mops on heads were de regeur. But, as another poster commented, it was VOLUNTARY and the participants were older -- not impressionable 8 year olds.
