HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) -- President Robert Mugabe pledged Sunday to move ahead with plans to hand over 51 percent control of businesses to blacks under a controversial program.
During ceremonies Sunday marking the 30th anniversary of independence from colonial rule, Mugabe said the proposed business take overs are a concrete example of policies followed over the last three decades that enable locals to own the nation's resources.

And now those businesses will become a shadow of their former selves, if they survive at all.
I would LOVE to hear Pastor James David Manning of ATLAH Church speak on this subject.
Also a concrete example of how to run the economy into the ground. Look how well the "locals" have done so far.
Some years ago I worked with an Indian programmer who was brought up in the UK. I asked him how he got there and he said his dad had a thriving business in Uganda when Idi Amin took over. In short time Amin evicted all the Indians and gave their businesses to his buddies. They sold all the goods and pocketed the money - then the goods ran out. Evidenttly it never occurred to them that you had to buy in order to sell, so when the stock was gone, they shuttered the shops and the economy tanked. After Amin was ousted, Uganda asked the Indians to come back. The Indians said "See ya", and Uganda's economy languishes today.
The scary thing is, Mugabe still enjoys quite a lot of support. Sure, he cheats, uses violence, etc to “win” elections, but there is no doubt a lot of blacks in Zimbabwe still support the guy. All he has to do is start shouting “imperialism”, blame whitie for all the nations problems, and he will attract the votes of a lot of blacks in Zimbabwe. You kinda see the same thing in many urban areas in the US like Detroit City.
Zero is watching and taking notes.
Mugabe is merely being up front about it.
YES, Zimbabwe, Haiti, Detroit.....its all the same. As a volunteer fireman I learned that there are some fires that are so out of control that the firefighters just have to back off and let the fires burn themselves out. Then, when the fire has done so is it safe of worthwhile to go back in to see whatever is left.
That will work as well as the farm thing did.
So the local Coca-Cola franchise will be owned by some high officials wife? Isn’t that the same people who got the best farm lands?
In effect, Mugabe has made future foreign investment illegal.
