If this is true (it’s the Slimes, so it’s a tossup), then Gates needs to be fired ASAP. It’s his job to develop such strategies, and to keep them current as situations change.

I suspect the lack of strategy rests 100% at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, not the Pentagon. I further suspect it's not even a priority at the White House. I believe Obama has decided it's no big deal if Iran has nukes and it wouldn't surprise me if the Pentagon leaked this to give the public a bit of a heads-up on that fact.

Are you suggesting Gates would only develop these strategies if Obama gave him a direct order to do it? Gates would be a fool if he waited for orders. It’s his job to be prepared.

So, if he has some strategies, why wouldn’t he mention it at the meeting mentioned in the article?

Right on both accounts. The Goldwater-Nichols act requires the CIC to present a National Security Strategy to the congress 180 days after being inaugurated.

That was July/August 2009.

National Security is not a priority for Obama.
