Perhaps you are right—about the error being pointed out.

As for politeness, it’s quite useful and appropriate in
handling a very minor problem.

To claim that politeness leads to mediocrity is a stretch. I just thought an old grump like me could point that out to you, so you don’t remain in ignorance about the usefulness of politeness.

So now—can we all just move along to the topic of the thread?

It depends what form the politeness takes. If it's just a matter of saying something kindly but still saying what needs to be said, sure, politeness can be a virtue. But if politeness means that we can't mention something at all, it's no longer a virtue - it's in that case that it leads to mediocrity.

So now—can we all just move along to the topic of the thread?

I haven't been stopping anyone from doing that - be my guest.
