Despite repeated recommendations to provide reproductive health services to teenage boys as well as girls, few adolescent males are getting the information they need to protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, a new study reports.
Fewer than one-quarter of boys ages 15 to 19 were counseled about sexually transmitted diseases or HIV by a health care provider during the previous year, according to a national survey of 1,121 young men done in 2002, representing no significant change since 1995, when a similar proportion received such counseling, the study found.
Young men who had three or more female partners or engaged in oral or anal sex with male partners were more likely to have received counseling; about one third said they had been counseled about sexually transmitted diseases in 2002. But a similar proportion of those engaging in risky sexual activities received counseling in 1995, the study found.
Even fewer young men were counseled about birth control: fewer than one-fifth discussed contraception with a health care provider, the 2002 study reported. Almost two-thirds of sexually active young women have received such services, other reports indicate.

Really, sex-ed in school and the media do not cover this? In general, people engage in risky sexual behavior or have unwanted pregnancies not because of a lack of knowledge but of will. Where is the evidence that counseling reduces the incidence of unhealthy behavior?
I oppose "gay marriage" primarily because it sends a signal that the "homosexual lifestyle" is just as good and valid as the heterosexual one. In fact, especially for males, homosexuality activity, especially (excuse for me being explicit) "anal sex" is inherently dangerous. I wonder if the counselors are allowed to mention that.
Don't be gay. If you do decide to practice such deviant behavior, you will be 50 TIMES more likely to contract HIV.
Don't be a needle popper. Don't have pre-marital sex. Don't even have pre-marital heterosex (expecially avoid women that have sex with bi-sexual men or use intravenous drugs).
Basically, use a bit of morality and common sense instead trying to be the biggest degenerate possible like our "heroes" on TV and in the 0bama administration......
Some counsel, some counselors.
“few adolescent males are getting the information they need to protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases”
How ‘bout, “Keep your pants zipped”?
Here we are awash in information, but unless it’s personally delivered to people, they do not know it exists. How much more needs to be out there about HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases before one of these young men notices? For crying out loud, they watch all those music award shows with presenters and recipients alike sporting AIDS ribbons. What do they think they’re for, proving the cover charge was paid?
Unadulterated bullpucky. Next they’ll be telling us that “young men” don’t know sex can produce babies.
Slightly off-topic suggestion: how about we don’t describe anyone as “young men” or “young women” until they’re married or have a job.
This is a reanalysis of data from self report surveys done in 1995 and 2002 and does not represent new information.
Main outcome measures centered about conversations with physicians and nurses. Your questions about generally available information in public schools, public service announcement, and other sources will not be addressed in this study nor would they be expected to be.
To the crew at the NY Times, “sexual health counseling” means teaching ‘fisting’ techniques.
I am not making this up.
This is a ploy to step up the public school activists’ desire to move in on boys for intense homosexual re-education and rape.

Excellent comments in the thread. It takes no money for each set of parents (there's another problem right there - how many households have only one parent???) to tell their children, boys and girls, real sex education. You know, stuff like not just the plumbing and how babies are made, but what sex is for - babies! And you wait until you are married! And if you do this other stuff (age appropriate), all these kinds of terrible things may happen, you will suffer, and it is wrong!
Sex-ed in school is just perverts' way to lead children into depravity. It's that simple.
We were awash with scare stories about HIV and AIDS while the liberals were trying to hustle us out of our hard earned money to research it and find a cure for it, other than abstinence of course. Now that they are pushing gay marriage and the homosexual agenda we no longer hear about it. Is there a connection? Certainly!
Although most hospitals and doctors in Africa had no way to test for HIV they claimed to have an epidemic of AIDS. We sent them billions to fight it. Yet, millions are dying from malaria each year all because the liberals banned harmless DDT years ago. It was very effective on mosquitoes but the Left said it was making robins’ egg shells thin. Even were it true, and it wasn’t, Boo effing hoo!
So, billions for a disease that may not exist (in Africa)and is easily preventable and nothing for a pesticide that could save millions. That is the Left’s way.
